Home Tour

Welcome to our home! We are currently living in Connecticut for my husband's job. He’s in the Coast Guard and we live in military housing. With that being said, I really can’t do much in the way of renovating our home. So with this house (and the few before it), I have tried to creatively make it into a home we love. This is the biggest house we have lived in, and to be honest, the square footage is perfect. I would still probably change a few things in regards to structure if we actually owned it, but it works pretty well for our needs.

Here is the entryway that you see when you walk through our front door. I’ve kept it simple and functional with the decor. It’s not super narrow, but with two little boys running about, I definitely don’t want things being in the way of their fun. We have an entry closet that is pretty big and houses our coats, shoes, and stroller. We also have a half-bath attached to the entry hallway.

After the entry hallway, we gather into our kitchen. I love all of the counter space that I have for cooking and baking, as well as the ample storage space for everything, including a small pantry. To the right of the kitchen there’s a door that leads into our laundry room, utility closet, and garage. To the left of the kitchen is our dining space - it’s not big by any means, but we like it. My husband built us this table when we first moved here last summer, and I absolutely love it! As I am writing this, we are updating the legs and trim of the table to make it more sturdy.

Now we turn around and face our living room. It’s a little smaller than the last house we lived in, but I don't mind that because it's an open concept. I will say that I struggled to find the right balance of furniture and decor for this space. I am not completely sure on how I feel about it right now though, even after 3 times of rearranging it, but I’ll talk a bit more about this space in a later post.

After the living room we go up the stairs and the first bedroom we see is the master bedroom. I LOVE this bedroom. It's the perfect size and has a bathroom and a walk-in closet attached to it, but what I really enjoy about this room is that it gets the morning sun. I love having the sun wash in through my curtains every morning. This bedroom also becomes the hottest room in our house since it sits on top of the garage, but I don’t mind it so much since we have central AC in our home. I should also mention that we have two storage closets adjacent to each other right in front of our door, and we also have a linen closet in the bathroom. The one thing this house isn't lacking: storage space.

Let's move on down the hallway to our guest room/office. I love this room! This was the first room I decorated in this house. I actually knew exactly what I wanted to do in here before the other rooms. We made it functional as a guest bedroom by adding a futon instead of a whole bed, which helped save on space for a desk and a little reading area. I don't really have a great picture of the office area. It looks alright, but I'm trying to figure out how to make it more homey for us. This room holds a special place in my heart because I spent many days here with our youngest when we first moved in here, and we used to read to our oldest a lot in here. This is a space that makes me feel calm and peaceful. Right across from the guest room is the third bathroom in our house. Our kids use this one the most, but I like that it's a stand-alone bathroom for when we have guests over.

And finally for the last room in our home: the boys' bedroom! It’s not perfect yet, and probably won’t be since they are still toddlers and will be growing and changing out of things. But this room holds a lot of pride for me still. We've built a couple of things in here, and we still have memories from when they were little babies. The dresser/changing table is the first thing my husband and I refinished to use as our own dresser. He also built the crib and the bookshelves.

Thank you for coming along on this tour of my home - I hope it brought you some inspiration! I will be doing more detailed posts of each room and my favorite things about each one soon.

Thank you for reading,

Brittany
